THE WABA is back in action!
Sonya Nichols will serve as WABA CEO. Ms Nichols credits a sports resume that includes an assortment of both on and off court experiences including tenure at James Madison University as a scholarship member of the NCAA tournament team. While in ISHA, she held records for most rebounds in a game, season, and career, (two of the three are current in the state of Illinois), to become one of the top rebounders in the nation’s history behind greats. Sonya has also helped organize and operate Unique Starz Life Skillz Basketball Camp, Michael Jordan’s Basketball Camp, University of Illinois, Wisconsin and Notre Dame Camps. She is currently in the Sports & Entertainment consultant industry.
The WABA welcomes new C.O.O Sporty Smith to the Executive team. Sporty brings a wealth of experience to the board having been in the Entertainment field for over 27 years, as well as a Boxing Manager/Athletic agent for over 8 years, managing several high profile clients. In 1988 he qualified to become a member of the U.S Track and Field team as a Sprinter but an injury sidelined his Olympic aspirations. Sporty’ s other accomplishments include, Disabled American Gulf War Veteran, Culinary Arts graduate at Johnson and Wales Culinary Arts Institute of America, in addition to being a graduate of Peoples Law School.

The popularity of Women’s basketball has grown at a phenomenal rate prompting the ABA to join in and support a professional women’s league of their own. 2014 will launch the inaugural season of the Women’s American Basketball Association giving females an opportunity to play in four regions throughout the U.S. The regions cover the West, Mid-West, South, and North East areas with four teams per division. “The skill level of today’s women players is tremendous and there is little women’s professional basketball during the regular basketball season. The timing is right” and ABA CEO Joe Newman has set the platform for markets to share in this opportunity.
The WABA serves as a sister league to the distinguished American Basketball Association that has successfully brought modern professional basketball to hoops-crazy small market cities untapped by competitors. The ABA has also created many historical legends and is without question one of only two brands ever known “worldwide” in the history or modern Professional Basketball.
As with the ABA, the WABA provides a modern “business model” that allows WABA teams, fans, non-profits and local business, to participate in the “game of basketball” but more importantly benefit from the “business of basketball”.
This family oriented event will bring excitement to fans of all walks at affordable prices unmatched by rivals.
